What's New in Version 5.8

Version 5.8.5

This service pack mainly includes corrections of side effects due to recent changes to accommodate Chinese and East-Asian countries' Windows variants.

  • Structural code check DNV-ST-0126-2021: modified value of gamma factors for axial tension and shear (1.10 instead of 1.15) (Mantis 1627)
  • Wrong display in the 3D scene of lump masses defined by their arc lengths along a split line (Mantis 1623)
  • Loading of an internal fluid file (Mantis 1619)
  • Crash after line attributes modifications (Mantis 1617)
  • Error on displacement selection (Mantis 1611)

Version 5.8.4

Graphical User Interface

On machines with Windows OS that have a default GUI font that is too large (on Simplified Chinese Windows for example), the content of some dialog boxes did not appear in their entirety. Now all dialog boxes use the imposed font ("MS Sans Serif" of size 8) and their content is displayed in its entirety.

Bug fixes

  • in User Defined Keywords dialog, problem when selecting location for some lines (Mantis 1576)
  • Correction on planes (XY, XZ…) display (Mantis 1578)

Version 5.8.2

Excel model file creation

As mentioned at the last users group meeting, this service pack is mainly a step forward to the model set-up improvement and the following components can now be defined in the Excel file:

  • Complete definition of HAWT
  • User Defined Keyword (UDK)
  • Generic line type specific options : mechanical properties and aerodynamic coefficients, "Rectangular hollow stiffened section property"
  • Floater motion type options added : RAO Conventions and High frequency wave loads option for Calculated first and second order wave motion
  • Missing waves types
  • Wave set

In addition, it is now possible to specify a selected option by a number instead of typing the full title (previous format still accepted).

Other features

  • Add global setting for default output format file : database or ASCII file
  • HDB creation user-friendliness: selection of the Floater Motion type
  • Setting “CUR_PATH_REL” enables to define a PATH relative to DSK file for mesh file of generic floater and rigid body
  • A system check when Windows default numeric separator is not a dot “.”
  • Usage of the post treatment Python functions in the batch file creation module has been redesigned

Bug fixes

  • There was an error "Setting negative node mesh index" under certain possible settings (Mantis 1500)
  • Joints: Correction regarding the representation of joints with several nodes (Mantis 1510)
  • Joints: In the case of an X intersection, a new section is created for the line, with one segment having a fake property and this segment does not participate in the calculation of code checks. Automatic generation of joints now takes into account joint with only one chord. (Mantis 1512)
  • In HDB creation tab, it was not possible to select a folder directly (Mantis 1513)
  • Some HAWT components added in analysis set are not translated in LOG file (Mantis 1515)
  • There was an error when translating the generic line inertia in LOG file (Mantis 1517)
  • There was a GUI error when running dynamic analysis when some files were still in use (Mantis 1519)
  • For a spectral analysis, DSS view was showing time toolbar (Mantis 1521)
  • There was a refresh error for stiffener flange eccentricity when updating flange type (Mantis 1524)

  • Objet wave was not available in predefined results on some environment set (Mantis 1529)
  • HDB creation, when reloading a model with HDB already created, it was not possible to update it via HDB creation tool (Mantis 1534)
  • If a generic floater has been set as a box mesh, when a user mesh file is set later, by default the mesh file use was the one generated by the former box mesh sometimes (Mantis 1535)
  • Mesh drawing position should not be on floater motion centre by default (Mantis 1539)
  • Sometimes, when an analysis was updated by adding or removing a shape, the floater motion in calculation parameters was lost (Mantis 1540)
  • There was a refresh issue for floater motion when updating name (Mantis 1544)
  • There was an error when reading substructure mesh file when end of line in mesh file as trailing tabs

Version 5.8.1

Floater's Hydrodynamic

DeepLines WindTM diffraction/radiation module (from DiodoreTM) improvements :

Model set-up through Excel file

Discover our model datasheet format DeepLines model in Excel format. Once filled out, a simple drag&drop into the DeepLines main panel creates the model.

Structural Code Checks

New definition of joints with option of automatically generating rigid bodies associated with tubular intersections. Code check ratios can be displayed in the 3D view of the model. Improvements concerning the parallel launch of code check computations by analysis. The code checks DNV-OS-J101-2011 (on tubes) and DNVGL-ST-0126-2016 (on columns) are both renamed DNV-ST-0126-2021.

Wave Modelling Improvement

Some wave modelling improvement is described in Wave Modelling Improvement concerning a new spectrum and in Irregular waves concerning the wave elevation time trace and the maximum wave force.

Simplified Blade Model

A new way of modelling HAWT Blades is now described in Simplified Blade Model

Generic Lines

Generic lines are used to model non-circular beams. There are the basis for blades properties definition. They can be used also for rectangular floater’s pontoon for instance. Some restriction applies on generic lines used outside the turbine panel for blades. These restrictions are now removed, please see AeroHydrodynamic properties tab

Hull pressures studies

Redesign of the functionality.

Pressure display on the 3D view added.

Specific Function Through Keywords

Some very specific functions can be used through user defined keywords. Some new functions are described in this section:

Control of a group of nodes

This is an extension of the *GRNCONT functionality. Two new options have been introduced:
*GRNOCONT,NAME=LOADLOCSTIFFITM
*GRNOCONT,NAME=LOADLOCSTIFFITMDATA
*GRNOCONT,NAME=LOADLOCSTIFFITM is defined exactly as
*GRNOCONT,NAME=LOADLOCSTIFFIT as described here. The difference is that that the matrices provided through dll can link all the nodes while with LOADLOCSTIFFIT only deals with matrix of a node on itself.

Similarly *GRNOCONT,NAME=LOADLOCSTIFFITMDATA is defined exactly as *GRNOCONT,NAME=LOADLOCSTIFFITDATA as described here. The difference is that that the matrices provided through dll can link all the nodes while with LOADLOCSTIFFITDATA only deals with matrix of a node on itself.

Aerodynamic drag coefficients

In DLW, the aerodynamic drag coefficients are computed based on the relative velocity of the structure with respect to air particles. Two options are created to compute the drag force on the wind velocity only or on the structure velocity only (See *DRAGVFLAIR and *DRAGVSTAIR).

Corrections

  • Code checks with hydrostatic pressure option: correction when recovering pressures in solver database.
  • Code checks on tubes:
    • In some configurations, segments might not have local section assigned in parameters tab.
    • Some tubes may have an incorrect length which may affect the calculation of the hydrostatic pressure.
  • Code checks on shells: the static sea pressure was not well taking into account when the static reference was associated to a time of each analysis (it took the value of the last analysis selected for all analyses).
  • Code checks on pontoons:
    • The formulation of the sea and tank pressures was only correct for horizontal sections.
    • Indexes of the panels in the CSV output file could be incorrect.
  • Code check DNV-RP-C201-2010:
    • Max detailed ratios for girders in CSV file were not correctly reported.
    • The computed ratio in axial tension case is removed because it is not part of the regulation.
  • Code check API-RP-2A-WSD-2007: problem when enabling the hydrostatic pressure option.
