TDP results tracking

The location of the touch-down point for any line can be extracted from any static or dynamic analysis.

Derivation of the touch-down point location is made at every quasi-static step or time-step based on a screening of the seabed contact loads along the line. Any static or dynamic results may then be extracted at the location of the touch-down point.

Warning

Resuts at TDP are only available in case contact between the line and he Sea&Ground component is modelled in the analysis. The position of the touch-down point along the line is indeed based on seabed contact loads along the line. You must also ensure that the contact results file (i.e. DTBSC binary file that is created by the FE engine) is actually stored to enable identification of the touch-down point. TDP Region zone type is not available if the seabed is modelled using a Rigid Body component.

Extracting TDP location

The location of TDP and the length of line resting on the seabed may be extracted as follows:

  1. Select either the Static curves or Dynamic curves tab in the standard post-processing dialog.

  2. Select any Line component in the Object frame.

  3. Tick the TDP box in the Show variables frame

  4. Select either "TDP abscissa" or "Lying length" item in the Variables frame.

Extracting step evolution results at TDP

  1. Select the Static curves tab in the standard post-processing dialog.

  2. Select step evolution graph type in the Static curves tab.

  3. Select any Line component in the Object frame.

  4. Tick the desired variable type in the Show variables frame.

  5. Select the desired variable item in the Variables frame.

  6. Select the TDP item in the Position on line frame.

Extracting time-evolution results at TDP

  1. Select the Dynamic curves tab in the standard post-processing dialog.

  2. Select the time evolution graph type in the Dynamic curves tab.

  3. Select any Line component in the Object frame.

  4. Tick the desired variable type in the Show variables frame.

  5. Select the desired variable item in the Variables frame.

  6. Select the TDP item in the Position on line frame.

Extracting dynamic envelopes of results around TDP

  1. Select the Dynamic curves tab in the standard post-processing dialog.

  2. Select the envelop graph type in the Dynamic curves tab.

  3. Select any Line component in the Object frame.

  4. Tick the desired variable type in the Show variables frame.

  5. Select the desired variable item in the Variables frame.

  6. Select the Around TDP item in the Arc length frame.

  7. In the Arc length frame, set the start and end positions of the zone relative to the static location of the touch-down point.
