Lines modelling
The mechanical behaviour of slender structures is mainly governed by axial strains. The structure is usually represented by a beam type model with axial (EA), bending (EI) and torsion (GCt) stiffness. For some structures like the mooring lines, bending and torsion moments are usually neglected. In that case, simple cable or bar elements may be used. At last, special elements may be defined like synthetic ropes or spring elements.
This Section focuses on the internal and inertia contribution of these various structures to the virtual work principle.
