Waves sets
Wave sets may be used to create several individual waves all included in the same model component. Wave sets may then be used to generate series of analyses grouped in an Analysis Set, each of the analyses being associated with a single individual wave included in the Wave set.
Wave sets may be used to conveniently setup series of dynamic analyses featuring similar structural model components and different waves.
Note
Wave sets are mostly used to perform wave screening analyses and/or to derive results RAO such as motion RAO, stress or tension RAO.
-
Name: Enter the name of the Wave set component.
-
Type: One of 12 types of waves may be selected : All the waves must be the same type:
-
Regular:
-
Airy,
- Stokes 5th order,
- Deans stream theory,
-
Automatic choice,
-
Irregular:
-
Jonswap spectrum,
- Ochi-Hubble spectrum,
- Gaussian spectrum.
- DIODORE wave spectrum
- DEEPLINES wave spectrum
- Torsethaughen spectrum
- User elevation versus time
- Log normal spectrum
-
-
Single / Multiple wave heading: if multiple wave heading is selected a new heading column appears to define the heading of each individual wave.
Warning
The single wave heading option must be used to generate RAOs of stress or tension required to perform fatigue analysis of rigid risers and mooring lines based on the spectral approach. Post-processing of results RAO does not work in case the multiple wave headings option is used.
-
Complete the remaining columns in accordance with the type of wave chosen.
-
For irregular wave trains, enter a value for 'Number of frequency components' - this has a value of 200 as default, and it is recommended never to have fewer than this.
Note that the data table can be imported and exported directly from/to Excel using cut/paste commands.
Create a new wave in the Wave Set by selecting the Insert new wave button or a chosen wave can be erased by selecting the Remove selected wave button.
