Pulley properties
The pulley properties tab allows to define the main characteristics of the pulley :
-
Axial stiffness : the axial stiffness (EA) of the cable element going through the pulley (in N
-
Initial pretension : the initial pretension of the cable element going through the pulley (in N)
-
Pulley strand length 1 : the unstrained length of the cable linking nodes P1 and P3
-
Pulley strand length 2 : the unstrained length of the cable linking nodes P2 and P3
Note
Pulley cables have zero mass and thus should not be modelled where the mass of cable may have a static or dynamic influence on the results.
No friction is assumed to occur within the pulley and thus the balance of forces remains 'perfect' regardless of the loads applied.
Knowledge of pulley design is assumed where this component is used to model complex pulleys, and the intended use of the component is in riser analysis (such as installation) and not pulley design.
