Floater motion

A specific type of motion is defined for the multistructure floaters. Only coupled analysis can be performed with these floaters (no imposed RAOs of motion). The hydrostatic is recomputed with respect to the plane Z=0 at each static iteration or time step. The options available in the interface are:

  • No motion,
  • Motion calculated with substructure and Morsion damping ,
  • Morison only,
  • Calculated with substructure, low frequency wave loads and Morison damping.

The last three options are used to compare results for formulation. Beware of added mass and inertia coefficients if using the Morison only option since they are provided by the hydrodynamic database for substructures.

Other options are available by modifying the specific keyword (see *MSFPFDX), more specifically:

  • Non linear incident wave : in that case non only the hydrostatic force but also the Froude-Krylov force are computed at each time step,
  • Option on hydrodynamic moment participating in the calculations,
  • Option on update of the non linear hydrodynamic forces.
