HAWT Tower

The tower properties tab requires the following information to define the tower, assuming either a linear conical shape or user-defined shape profile. In the latter case a table is presented which allows the user to define the geometry section-by-section, whereas the standard conical only requires this data at the top and bottom:

  • Tower length: from the foundation to the slew ring/bottom of nacelle.

  • Number of sections: the sections required in the line element definition of the tower (for the user defined option only).

  • Mechanical properties: For the conical tower option, the user must define the outside diameter and wall thickness at the beginning and at the end of the tower. For the user defined option, the user must define the length, the outside diameter, the wall thickness and the add mass for each section.

  • Pipe material: Allows the user to define the Young modulus, the Poisson coefficient, the specific gravity (relative to water density) and the Rayleigh structural damping coefficient.

  • Aerodynamic table: Drag coefficient (Cd) versus the Reynolds number.

  • Drag coefficient for tower shadow: Drag coefficient, only used by the aero solver.

  • Line for tower shadow: Line object used for the tower shadow.
