Home > Model Components > Ballasts > Properties
Ballast properties
The ballast element properties tab is to enter a number of mechanical properties for your ballast element. These data will be actually used during the analyses:
-
Volume
-
Length
-
Contents density
The desired accuracy could also be provided.
Concerning the filling ratio, Quasi-static and Dynamic evolutions are independent. The Quasi-static option leads to the creation of a table while the time-dependant option leads to the use of a file. Notice that they can be combined.
If the linear option is used, then a table has to be created based on the maximum number of step of the analyses as is done for linear displacement for instance.
If the user-defined option is used, a panel appears by clicking on Edit user- defined Evolution and a table is created (similar to the current user-defined evolution) with the required time step and the percentage (again if 20 appear in the % column, it is translated as 0.2).
If the time dependant option is selected, the edit button becomes accessible and enables the user to browse for a file name (including the path).
Note
If the linear option is used the table to be created based on the maximum number of step of the analyses would be the following shape:
*TABLE 1 0.01 10 0.1
Note that the filling ratio at the maximum step is 10% as given in the panel, which translates into 0.1 at maximum step. The table number is then used as the parameter itab
Results post-processing for a ballast object is similar to the post-processing of a buoy object without fairleads: Position, displacement, velocity, acceleration, reaction force are available for all types of analyses.
